well im gonna lose all my things *rant*

Ok what kind of car is it? Is it worth say $1500 if you were going to sell it today? If so could you possibly find someone who would buy it from you today for say $1000. Take the thousand and pay the total amount due on the storage. Then get the car out for them. The only problem is you have to find someone to buy the car sight unseen. If there's someone who's familiar with it you'd stand a better chance. What I'm saying is give someone an offer on the car that's too good to pass up but stipulate that it has to be paid today. Then use the money to pay the rent and get the car out deliver it to whomever bought it and you're set for getting the rest of your stuff.

Yes, if you read the rental agreement on those units it states that in the contract. You have to be pretty far behind before they auction it, at least most of the time. They have auctions at storage places all the time here, you can get some pretty cool stuff for not much money. I would never do it, but I have known people that did.
There was one guy around here, that bought a few units and actually returned some of the personal stuff to the owners.

if u don't pay for so many months they get to auction ur stuff. It's a business not personal. Nothings free...

I agree. It was probably a clause in the paperwork that must be signed when someone rents a self-storage unit. Check the contract and see what it says.

I assume the reason why they do this is so that they have something to hold over people's heads in order to get the money that is owed to them. Otherwise they'd be going "round and round the mulberry bush" with people, trying to get the money that is owed to them.

True enough Lisa.

My ex and I had storage unit. He was supposed to be paying it, but didn't. They sent him notices for months, he never told me about the back rent owed until I had a place and wanted to get some of our stuff and it was too late.

It is absolutely in the agreements you sign and it is not like they take action after just a few days late either. They make an honest effort to give you the chance to pay the arrears.
