Well.. now i'm a bit sad :(

Well i am not sure they are yet one just started to make a hole in the egg. If they do I really dont know what to do this is my first hatch

they should be fine.. if one just started to pip there isnt much to worry about.. the main thing is to always get the humidity up fast when you do have to open during lockdown.. more importantly when there is an external pip.. just keep an eye on the pipped one.. if he continues to make progress then he's good to go

its just one and he hasnt even made a hole yet, just that little crack if you know what i mean? feeling better now, thanks

That's what I say to my chickies when they are hatching. Sure you look dumb but you feel good.

It's exciting, I know...I'd probably have opened it too. I've had chickens, ducks, geese, etc. for off and on for over thirty years, but I've never used an incubator - your post has taught me something! I had no idea those things were so touchy. If you really want to be hands-on with your eggs, you could use a broody hen or duck. We always have broody Muscovy ducks around - two of my best hens were hatched by a duck, just be sure to take the chicks away immediately. I think it's natural for a certain percentage to not make it, so don't blame yourself if some don't hatch. Good luck.

While sitting on Eggs,Ducks leave their nest, to take a crap and eat and drink for several minutes at at a time......I think you will be alright!!

I'm incubating for my first time, but I find it very hard to believe that if you open the lid, just briefly that it's a death sentance. Your humidity should come back up quickly. I had an egg that was kicked out of the nest, nearly tossed it because i didn't see movement, left it on the counter for nearly 12 hours while i ran errands for the day came home, checked it once more and he was rockn rollin inside so i put him in a fauxbator and it hatched perfectly 2 days later. I opened that cooler i dont know how many times because i wasnt sure if it was alive or not. If an egg is under a hen, the humidity isnt controlled by a hydrometer and if you live in a dry environment i cant imagine it's super humid under her. I also think the fear of drying out by opening the lid isn't until after they pip. I would just relax and keep an eye on your humidity and wait for the little fuzzballs to make their appearance.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I was hatching some eggs recently and a bunch of the babies had hatched with no more pips so I opened it up, took the chicks out and put the cover back on. Well, I got busy taking care of the chicks and hadn't turned the incubator off yet and decided I'd take care of it the next day and 2 more chicks hatched! I was suprised to say the least...

As long as you have the humidity where it should be now you will probably be fine. Good luck!

I am in the same rut as you are Duckguy, I didn't shrink wrap my quail eggs, but I am a bit sad, because I got 13 quail eggs to hatch out of 118 eggs, and all the other eggs were quitters, and 8 chicks have died so far, so I am down to 5 quail chicks. Ugh...... I am really discouraged from ever hatching another STUPID quail egg. The temperature in the incubator swung consistently, so I guess it was bound to happen. I still am disappointed though.
