Well.. now i'm a bit sad :(

It's not quails I have a problem with but I'm hoping for some help ! My broody gave up on her egg yesterday /today and it's sad as it's hatchery is roughly tomorrow. I've Got itinerant of The fire !I know it's not the best but it's last minute.
My question is how do I know of the poor thing is stil alive or not;( I've tried candling but don't see movement is that normal for one near hatching?;(

how close is close? I could see movement in my 1 egg up till it pipped. I have 11 going into lockdown tonight and i still see movement. I candle and tap gently with my pinky nail as i hold the flashlight and egg. Try to listen for peeping and candle in pure darkenss.

Opening the incubator can cause them to be shrink wrapped and die. I would add a few wet papertowels (warm water) to boost the humidity.

The humidity level will drop very quickly once the bator is opened and depending on the size of your bator, will take about 6 hours to build up again. If a chick happens to be hatching in that time it may become shrink wrapped.

6 hours? Mine took 5 minutes..

It depends what kind of incubator you have, and what size. It will also take less time if you mist the inside with warm water or add wet papertowels.

I used warm, wet sponges placed on side to maximize area; I utin 4 of those and 4 jars of warm water with rolls of paper towels. Easily go to over 90%. ( SOing turkeys so goal was greater than 80%).

I have had sucess with opening the egg after zip but no pip. I feel bad fi it might be shrink wrapped OR too big to zip, so I do open mine. Saved 3 out of 5.

Deep breath--this is a learning experience for all of us. We learn the most from our mistakes! ( Not saying you did make a mistake, just mean that if all is perfect every time, what did you learn?)

Yeah when i went into lockdown tonight, once i filled the resivoires it took less than 5 minutes to come up. I dunno, i just think Banjo was meant to hatch regardless. I mean kicked off the nest for a day, on the kitchen counter for nearly 12 hours and stuck in a fauxbator aka cooler and hatched beautifully. Me holding the egg and everything.
