Well I thought i had time to move her and she's been sitting on these eggs for awhile but I thought I had a couple of weeks to move her. It's been below zero here. So I go out to the coop for their afternoon snack and check up and I hear peeping. OMG! I look and there in the nest box is a cute little Del chick. Moms a Dominique. Then I look and there's a cute Cuckoo Marans chick. OMG! Both alive and dry and fuzzy in the dead of winter.
So I rush to the house and make up a bin w/ wood chips and straw and grab a basket line it with a blanket get the chicks and mom and put her in my office. I let her have only two eggs as I didn't want to upset her hormones but breaking her. I can deal w/ two chicks.
I'll post pics later but she's 2/0! It's 80 in the office so I know they'll be fine.
I do have another hen Cuckoo marans sitting on 10 assorted Del and CM eggs. She's in the back room w/ a red heat lamp. Those should be due at the end of the month I guess. They're in a 4' round wadeing pool so they should be all right.
But I can't believe it in a cold unheated coop! She did it!. Sorry but is there anything more exciting about chickens than a broody hen who hatches her own chicks? And in the dead of winter!
