Yes, and in my observations, even when Hazel thumped him a little, she did not like the confrontation and kept it to a minimum. She didn’t reinforce it much with a chase.

That right there was her mistake. She needed to thump and chase to garner his respect. Currently he doesn't respect her so the pullets are following his lead (the way they should in a fully mature flock). I think Bob's idea of putting 2 of the pullets at a time in time out is a good one. Adding one of the bossy BO in with them is a good idea IF NECESSARY, but if you can, start with the problem pullets. Their behavior needs to be addressed whether he is in the flock or not. Also, packing him around when he's being incessant is an option. I'm not sure if that's a good one or not. @RebeccaBoyd can you weigh in on this, please?

@BY Bob we have snow. 1-2 inches and still drifting down. However, I have to work, so will be leaving before the mad rush. Miss Priss Bijou on the other hand does NOT like getting her rather large (bigger than Castor's) feet wet....even when the rain has stopped. If the surface is more than damp, she doesn't want her feet on it. Snow is getting treated the same way. She's going to have an interesting winter at this rate.

I had to argue with Rooster Cogburn tonight. He was the last one in and he wanted me to keep the run gate open, for easy access to the yard in the morning. When I called “bed time!!” Everyone came running, but he’s at that stupid stage. So is Gizmo, but Giz pays attention. Why are there always chicken issues? Drama I don’t need!

It is, in all honesty, just like having kids!!!!

That's basically the plan, there's a run structure with a knackered roof and partial walls that I'm fixing up and roost space will be built inside that. It was hard getting materials over the summer because the local place was struggling to hire a delivery driver and then recently it's been too windy to be up a ladder with roof sheets and/or too rainy to be digging post holes every time I've had a couple of days free to work on it. It'll get sorted eventually.

Planting trees as shelterbelt isn't an option, for several reasons. The wind isn't even the main one but I'll stick this here anyway because it's funny (if you let the long grass grow up around these they make a good day shelter for a few chickens though)

This is why I let the weeds grow up in some spots, it’s good hiding locations, and shade in the summer heat, and shelter from light rain and wind.

Wonderful ~ the whole world opened up for them beyond just staring at the ground to see

They were very alert after I trimmed them, and of course now I can’t catch them hahaha.

But that’s ok, they know the routine here so I can take my time with handling them.

Hope your Adirondack fits thru the door. Our hens used ours to snooze under before we made more shade for them in our old 2011 bare yard.

My gals love to sit under my lawn chair, anything that’s cover they will use.

That old pile of junk that used to be my gazebo is such a great place for them to hide under, that I just left it for them.
