My two week olds are still in the brooder bin, but quickly outgrowing it. I open the wire lid and four of the eight are on the rim instantly. From there, they're scrambling up to my shoulders. We're going for something bigger tomorrow. I mean, I love all the attention, but poop down my shirt with the over-excited ones is not my cup of tea.

Once a day I take them all outside or into the kitchen floor with towels and half an egg. They run crazy around for about ten or fifteen minutes and then I sit down and cover my lap in dish towels as they all get tired and come up onto my lap for a nap. When the dog barks or a plane goes over, they run to my chest and I pretend I'm a momma chicken and cover them with my towel wings!

Then I gingerly walk through all the poo, get them back into their brooder and proceed to clean up the MESS before the dogs run in and have a lick. Ugh!

Our first attempt at raising the height of the brooder walls failed. Turns out the vinyl fencing wasn't as sturdy as it looked. Now on to plan B, except there isn't a plan B yet. Gonna take measurements for materials to build the coop addition today.

This morning I watched one of my salmon faverolles chicks fly from one side of the brooder top to the other. 18" off the floor and about 4 ft. apart.
