Same exact thing happened to me. It was at night though and we heard chickens carrying on. Dog had gotten in my pen and killed all four of my turkeys, including the sweetie in my profile picture. It was so sad. Turkeys are the best. We were planning on processing one for Thanksgiving, but the day hadn't come yet, so who knows if we would have gone through with it.

Oh, yeah, at least both of our girls were the sweetest things. The fellas, well... not so much. But one of them was gonna be freezer-bound, and the other was just gonna be there to make the eggs fertile, so we weren't that attached to them. The girls, though... they would come up and hang out with us rather than the toms any time we were outside. :love They adored us... and we let them down by not protecting them. :hit The gate to the pen wasn't as strong as we thought it was, and the dog pushed right through. :mad: I haven't decided whether we are going to try again this spring or not.

Although... when we do try again, I know what breed I want to try! I discovered there was a tri-colored turkey, and spent all day that day researching them! They're gorgeous! The breed is called Sweetgrass. Just astonishingly beautiful to me! http://squawbuttepoultry.weebly.com/sweetgrass.html
 
I agree years back I had a turkey, well we agreed Tom Tom would be our pet, & we'd get more for food. No sooner had we said that Tom Tom was stepped on by our horse. I cried apparently he tasted pretty good. I didn't have any
 
i too LOVED our turkeys! they were so friendly and sweet, loved their heads rubbed and would eat right out of our hands. they were great birds. everyone had such horrible stories of turkeys, im glad we listened to them! and yes after we butchered in november, we missed them and decided this year we are saving atleast 4 birds.

Thats funny my males are my little buddies, the females not so much.
