Well, we're now up to two rabbits (both bucks!)

Hi YA Kiddo, It was great meeting you and your family, the girls are adorable.

I agree with Kim , Easter bunny syndrom is a pain in the back side, I do not breed for easter, never have, I dont believe in it.
if more people would make it chocolate it would be a better life for all bunnys involved.

Personality in a rabbit is a 100% reason to adopt or purchase which ever the case may be.
I handle my boogers the minute they are born right up until they are sold to another breeder or the occasional well screened home.

Just the other day I had a woman stop in tears, her French Lop rabbit she bought from me last year was killed in a pig raiding incident.
Neighbors pig got loose, destroyed the rabbit hutch and killed the much loved buck.
She asked because of the incident if I would please see my way to sell her another buck.
I cant blame the woman for the loss, I blame the neighbor for not controlling his pig. there are measures that can be taken to insure such pigs do not break out.

She chose a lovely Steel French lop who was just too small for breeding or showing.
I knew he would make someone a great pet and friend, the minute she picked him up and cradled him in her arrms she was smitten lol.
Typical of most french lop bucks, he just rugged out , you could almost see them both sigh contentment.
needless to say she went home with her buck free of payment, hard to charge for instant love. it isnt seen very often.
have to add , her 2 year old was in the car when she brought the buck out, when she opend the car door to show the baby , he squealed with excitement and the rabbit just layed there in her arms and never flinched.

This guy is territorial over his cage.

He attacked when I went to clean out the hutch. He's darned lucky that he's easily handled and the dutch buck is not, otherwise, he may have become dinner afterall.

And, for the rabbits, I found two free standard rex rabbits (male and female), so, I'll be running for them here in the next few days (maybe Monday). They're free, but she's selling the supplies, $20 for the cages, accessories and excess feed. That's a price that I'm personally willing to pay.

Is there a forum just for rabbits?

I am an Iowa chicken farmer, visiting my dad in Arkansas. Went to auction with him last night, and bought 2 cute little brown bunnies. I had just butchered all my ducks and was missing the extra company. A lady at the auction supposedly sexed them for me, so I think I have a buck and a doe. I want to use them as breeding stock to produce younuns to fill my freezer. I need to build a hutch for them to live in Iowa, but don't know other than the 1/4 wire for the bottom, what they will require.
Do they need to be in a barn for winter? Do they need to be housed separate from each other? Can they be fed "all-stock" feed, or must I get Rabbit pellets?
