I bought them from Tractor Supply, who I am sure got them from a hatchery. So how did I get a mix? I thought hatcherys were very careful? I am just glad she isn't a he. And really she is a lovely red, my daughter calls her Jolene after the song.

hatcheries do sell mixes too.
a lot of chicken breeds are just that..mixes of different breeds.

Could be production red. Those are common at TSC and yes, mixed breed layers.
