Our fav hen is egg bound or has egg yolk peritonitis . I've given her a bath every 2.5 hrs, Given her calcium, and gently massaged her bottom. I rubbed coconut oil around her vent. Im worried about giving her too much calcium. How much is safe ? She is still able to pass liquid poop at the moment, it smells awful. Anything else I can do? We don't have money for a vet🥺

I'm sorry she's not doing well.

You can give up to 600mg Calcium Citrate+D3 daily for 7days.

How is she acting? Is she tolerating the soaks o.k.? If she's lethargic or balking at soaking, then just provide her with a heating pad on low or place her in a steamed up bathroom.

Hopefully she'll be able to expel an egg or perhaps some lash material soon.

She seems to enjoy the baths, she relaxes and even snoozes a little and seems to have energy after. The energy does fade, however. She seems to be pushing. Fluffing up briefly and pushing. I gave her 3 calcium pills today because I read it online somewhere 🤦‍♀️. I should've asked here first as I've always gotten good advice here! Hope i don't make things worse for her. Starting her on cephlaxin tomorrow. She is lethargic, not acting herself. Just standing like a penguin. I had her inside all day w a light on for warmth.

I think the Calcium will be o.k. usually 1 tablet is around 300mg depending on brand, so you didn't go over by a lot.
You're only giving the Extra Calcium for a short period of time (up to 7 days) so I think you are fine.

If she seems to like the baths, then that's good too. Some don't and it stresses them, so I usually ask.

Do what you can to keep her hydrated. Offer sips of water to her beak if she's not drinking. You can also give electrolytes or a little sugar water, often they like the sweetened liquids so will drink more on their own.

Keep me posted on how she's doing.
