Welp, the HOA was notified

I've taken to calling my planned chicken yard art extravaganza 'gay chicken wrath' because I got tired of saying 'the most colorful, loud, sparkly, kitschy chicken art I can find' :p. Kinda an in-joke with people who know me IRL because I'm a very quiet person and not gay.
Plus, there was mention of a gay pride chicken flag.

I think it's a good idea to get on this HOA board and start changing things from the inside. it sounds like they have a lot of updating to do. personally I never have heard of HOAs here in ontario but they sound a lot like condo boards, which is to say...annoying. but being on the HOA board and advocating for food security (veggie gardens out front, up to 6 hens for eggs etc) is the least they can do to change for 2022. also who needs grass short, it is better for water conservation and the roots of the grass to be kept close to 10cm tall, not golf course.

I would guess they're very similar to condo boards. Like, I understand having a common fund for things like sign and light repairs and whatever, and rules for common areas like 'please don't park giant RVs in the road' because that's just simple courtesy and safety.

Not being allowed to have a few chickens when everyone around me has at least two dogs per property is just stupid.

(please read with appropriate level of false outrage)

Dogs are allowed but not chickens ? Did your hens peck anyone's nose right off their face ? Or scare a small child by jumping up and clucking at them an inch away from their eyelashes?

Well gosh, makes perfect sense you would want a dog or a cat, whose feces contains pathogens that have been identified as causing development issues in children around, but not those terrible hens of yours.

Shame on you for raising such dangerous dinosaurs in your yard in such a safe neighborhood.

Well.. what were you thinking!

(I vote for 'flamboyant chicken chintz' or kitch, but I guess that begs the clarification of whether the chicken is flamboyant or the chintz/kitch is...)

Yeah, I feel like there's a lot of ignorance about chickens out there. They don't come without issues, but the misconceptions are real.

But the issues are mostly figuring out if you give your extra eggs to neighbors or a food bank... The fertilizer is less toxic than the chemicals people spread, and can be put into municipal compost bins if you are too close to the neighbors.

Of course... Don't let them get into the neighbor's flower beds, that could be an expensive snack...

Well, to be fair, they can attract rats and flies if not properly managed.
