Welsh Harlequin ducks

I agree with the mess. I mean who knew so much poo could come out of such a lil body!! Lil. We are not lucky enough to have a spot that sells chick or ducks in the spring. It was either pay the small order fee, get more than I want or go kijij. They are worth it though and I'm having tons of fun with them.

I am having a great time getting to know these little gals. Their personality is really starting to shine thru and we are getting more comfortable taking short walks out and about free ranging. They love their swim time and seem to really enjoy our bonding time every morning before work and in the evening when I get home. Alot of work but they are worth every minute.

Did you get your ducks? How is it going?
We did! They are two weeks tomorrow. 🥰

We have two welsh and two silver appleyards. They are great but the brooder set up needs some work. 🤪 They outgrew the tote, of course, and it was the largest one I could find. Now they are in the kiddie pool in the garage with wire around it. This morning was the messiest so far. I am trying the deep litter method a bit and bought some coop refresher. We don't have a compost set up yet so I am running out of places to store the shavings. I do dump some around my trees and plants.

We have ours in the basement in a dog pen. Have a tarp down with shelf liner and shaving. They are a month old now and their outside run is ready for when they fully feather out. They are fun but a handful. They have cell mates. A baby chick had to be separated so brought foster mom and her babies in to tend to her. Good thing I had 2 pens!!
