Welsh Harlequin

Definitely a silver. I don't know about the head being so dark, but my silvers are just a couple of weeks older and have a fair amount of black on their heads too.

This morning I hatched out my first WH eggs from my trio. The parents are golden in color. The hatchlings are all three completely different colors. One is yellow with brown striping down both sides (like a skunk). The second looks more like a baby mallard, with a dark back and yellow chest and striping around both eyes. And the third looks just like a baby khaki campbell.

I don't have any adult drakes other than my WH and two Muscovies (all black and white with black). Is this normal?

I'll try to post pics when they dry out.

Hello! I have 3 WH hens and 1 (downsized for breeding) drake! I at one time had 5 drakes from drakelings. LOVE MY BOYS but then decided I wanted to begin a duck family and found myself in a disaster when I only downsized to 2 boys and brought home 3 girls. Still overkill on the ratio so I had to go to one. The others have been rehomed to a young girl who absolutely loves them. Now we are finally getting a full clutch of eggs (10 total this morning) and I am waiting to see which one of the girls gets broody. I may have to take the #1 and #2 eggs out as they were laid nearly 15 days ago and I dont want them to get rotten. But the newest have come in the last few days so FINALLY the girls are getting used to mating and are now laying!

The WH for me have been very good. They are orderly, kind and so easy to herd! We take them out of the coop once in a while for a trip to the front lawn for some sprinkler action and night crawler finding. They love to be out there. Good luck!

My husband was just saying tonight that he wants to get a sprinkler for our 3 to play in this summer. Do they really love it?

They do! And for those folks driving by....to see ducks out in the front yard playing in the sprinklers...it's pretty funny to see them whip around and look! haha...

My hen is sitting!! YAY!!!

It's pretty funny, I was spraying my birds with the hose last night and they just stood there and looked like they were loving it. My pekin girl was trying to catch the water in her mouth. Funny birds.

I hate to be the barrer of bad news, but that is absolutely not normal for Welsh Harlequin Ducklings.
It sounds like one of you Muskies must be a drake. The down side, or possibly the upside, depending on
your point of view, the skunky one is probably going to be a mule. The other two might be just Welsh Harlequin
if they are yellow bodied and dark heads.

If you post pics it will be easier to tell for sure.

Best,

Liz

Here is a pic of my three WH ducklings. I got the eggs from their pen, so I know they're not from the Muscovy hens. (their eggs are different, anyway)

Would love to know how I ended up with these different colorings. The one on the right looks WH, the middle one looks khaki, which I guess I could understand, but where did the left guy come from?

Below is a pic of my WH trio, in case that answers any questions. They were given to me and the guy who had them has zero information on them. He couldn't even tell me how old they were.
