Welsh Harlequin

If your drake is a year, I don't think his head will fill in, but I'm not experienced with that stage of development yet, and all I have is book knowledge, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Shy looks like she has a bit of angel wing?

If Quinn is in her fall nuptial plumage in time for the show, I would choose her. If it's a 4-H show, I'd enter your drake as well, knowing he won't win, but so you can get the judge's comments on his quality.

Oh by the way is anyone here from michigan? I am looking for a sweet pet quality bird for my mallard hen..she is lonely she does not get to play with the Harle's she loves people but we are not always here:)

You could post that in the BST section, I think that would help.

Also, I was looking at Quinn as well, I wouldn't have guess she's a Metzer girl, Most of the ones I've seen seem to have some kind of flaw. (most, not all. I have seen some beautiful ones too.) That makes me excited, I just ordered from Metzers, and have some girls from them along with some Buff. I'm STILL surprised how friendly they are. they don't hesitate at all to step on my hand, or foot while I'm sitting with them. Two of the buffs were jumping into my lap on the first afternoon I had them.

Aurora-Harley baby. I think she's a gold. She's more bronze, and doesn't have any of the silver like my other two silver girls. the boys are the darkest colored though I've noticed. and tiny!

Silver Girl this pic is horribly colored, I took it at night and her coloring just doesn't fully show up. she has more of the markings on her head

Group pic! I ordered 10 ducks and got 11 all alive and healthy.(I just have my gals in this pic)

One of My buff girls is in the front

My buff girl is in the front left, the welsh are on all three sides of her and the second buff is in the back on the right. the gold WH is in the back on the left, next to the buff.

gwenirish11: If your drake is a year old, he will not get his head in I don't think. He is also pet quality if he is a year old and hasn't gotten his head in completely at all. Personally, if they were my birds, I would not breed the drake or any of the hens with a lot of brownish coloring on them, or extremely heavy markings. Just not the standards for them, but they are very pretty, I love them!! SO cute!

I need updated pics of my baby duckies. They are getting sooo big, also, they are feathering in REALLY late! They just started feathering in a week and a half ago and and they are 6 or 7 weeks old. Shouldn't they be fully feathered by now?! I hate when they worry me like this!!

I remember reading that playing/swimming in the water helps to start that growth process. It doesn't Keep it from happening, but it does help them. Your duckies are being odd aren't they? the hens not laying, and babies not feathering out....hmm.

Anyone know at what age I should be able to sex these guys by plumage or bill color? I have ten that are about 4 weeks old.

WH are sexed by bill color at 2-3 days old. You won't be able to sex by bill color now; their bills have changed color too much; and about their plumage, the WH coloring changes so much I don't think you can use that either because the boys look like females for quite awhile/ or vise versa. Your best bet is to listen to their voices. I think by four weeks your females would already be making some voice changes. The females sound like loud honks, or a farty noise. the boys are quiet, and raspy like they are mumbling or have a sore throat, but your boys would still be peeping like babies at this age.

could you take a video of them quacking, that would help.

Here is one of my pretty girls my daughter wants to show her but I don't know what our chances are....I think she is beautiful! I cal her Shy:)

Yes, going by the photos, I think Shy can be shown.

I will try, but I have a total of 12 ducklings. Whenever I hear a quack I look and try to figure out who it is, but so far the only positive ID has been a pekin. If I pick one up and take it from the flock to listen to it away from the crowd, it just reverts to baby peeps. Ah well, I'll see if I can get video.

It may work out if you take two or three at a time. that way they're around friends, but not alone. :) I know all about those baby peeps! My seven week old still does that when she's been honking and honking. I finally say Blue! what're you doing? and she just peeps. haha. silly ducks.
