Dear backyard bird lovers,
I recently rescued a welsummer breed bird wandering right out the front of our vet clinic.
It is young, but i dont believe it to be yet fully mature. We are not avaian specialists & are housing the bird in the hopes its owner comes forward to claim it. However, to do so we need as much info as possible to post with its pictures on our website (sorry i dont have any available for this post).
My question is, how do i sex a bird once its past pullet stage but not yet fully grown.
It only has an avg size & colour comb & wattle, is in otherwise great health & every other aspect about it makes me think its a chicken, however, it does have talons that look just SLIGHLTY larger than id expect for a young female.
Can anyone help me with tips or the process of how to definitively sex this bird?
Any ideas, tips or tricks appreciated.
Thanks guys
