I have 3 welsummers. 2 pullets and a cockeral. They are only 17 weeks, but I love them. They are beautiful birds and they lay such pretty eggs. (well, not mine yet, but they hatched out of really pretty eggs)

Here's the welsummer thread if you want to take a look at everyone's birds.

If you are planning to get them, reserve them now! Lots of hatcheries are running out since they are in hot demand this year. Unless of course you have a local breeder. Lucky you!! I wanted some, but have to wait. Got some Cukoo Marans for now

This is one of my favorite breeds. I have two pullets right now and am getting another one in April. Mine are good layers. I get Tera-Cota colored eggs with speckles. The Tera-cota color has gotten lighter color on one of them but the speckles are still very dark. Interesting looking eggs. One lays nearly every day. The other lays about 2 of every three days. She has slowed down considerably due to a light molt that is underway right now. These birds are very friendly. When they were chicks they were the favorite of one of my daughters and therefore they got held a lot. These birds frequently hang out by me when I am working in the yard and allowing them to free range. They seem to me to be smarter than many of the other breeds. Note - Mine are hatchery birds from a feed store.

I highly recommend Welsummers. They are in a tie for my second favorite breed (with Gold Laced Wynadotte.) My favorite breed is Rhode Island Red.
