Welsummer eggs color

After more closely looking at one of your pictures, those ear lobes appear to be very white; more so than any of mine. Maybe it's just the photo. Also the chest feathers appear lighter than any of mine. Maybe it's just the quality of the photo.[/QUOTE

It could be both. She is from Ideal. That’s where the feed store ordered them from. I don’t think their quality is that great although the Cuckoo Maran rooster that came from them is the sweetest best rooster ever. I gave him to my friend and she cannot praise him enough.

I only have one of my Welsummers laying so far, but she lays varying colorations in the eggs. The first was really small, medium brown with large widely spaced dark speckles. Then I got a few that were smaller speckles, widely spaced. Now the speckles are so dense that the eggs look solid brown. You have to look really close to see the speckles. Eggs about the same color as my Black Copper Marans, but differently shaped, so I know they are not from the BCM. I am thinking maybe as the season progresses, she may run low on speckle dye.

That’s funny

Speckled and brown from the same hen or different hens?
I'm not good at figuring out who is laying...I just gather the eggs :D But I'm pretty sure only one welsummer is laying because the other one is in a full-on molt. I also have Dominiques and I might be getting some speckled from them? I'm still new to chickens...I'm just excited I finally have a breed that will produce white eggs to add to my array of tan-brown eggs.

My welsummers laid eggs that were sometimes a nice consistent brown and sometimes speckled. That is just inconsistent application of pigment.
Good to know. I will be patient and see what happens next. Right now I’m watching her closely because she’s is also not laying in the nesting box. She’s checking the boxes but chooses to lay somewhere else. She’s a solitary girl but not the bottom of the pecking order.‍♀️
