I've been a bit discouraged as I thought our gorgeous Wilma the Welsummer was laying light eggs. But today I caught her leaving the nest box (mind you everyone else has been laying for months) and a beautiful speckled dark brown egg was there! She's 8+ months old and has looked like she was ready for months, but I guess she held out on me. What do you guys think? and yes she is wearing peepers because she is a bully!

I know I am so proud of her, thanks...finally and what a nice surprise since I wrote her off as a light layer...

I LOVE my little Wellie girls! I can't wait til they start laying! 'Course...they're only 4 weeks old right now.....it might be a little while.

ETA - Are they often the "bully"?

I've heard they are typically the sweetest birds in the flock, maybe all this pent-up egg production has made her cranky. Now that she knows she can do it, let's all hope she'll be nicer! She's the only one that doesn't like to be held and petted....I don't think that's "normal" for this breed...but hey chickens are chickens like humans are humans we all come in different shapes and sizes!

all my other chickens started laying around 6 months but Wilma took her sweet time! But it's worth it!
