Welsummer laid a blue egg

Cute pics! Welsumer are supposed to lay dark brown and have a straight comb. Yours was either mislabeled or mixed breed. Easter eggers would traditionally be two Ameraucana that bred and don't fit the standard, usually bearded with cheeks. The cheeks are called muffs. The tufts you are speaking of are from the Aracauna, seemingly more rare (that gene is deadly to chicks if they get 2 copies). These days though it seems people are calling EE anything with a blue egg gene mixed in the background. A lot of the olive eggers I see are clean faced. Colored eggs are fun.

Congrats on your new layer! I much rather get an egg of a different color than crowing!

Actually false. Easter Eggers are what the Ameraucana and Araucana breeds were bred from. Prior to the 1970s, there was no Araucana or Ameraucana breed standard. They were all called Araucana, but most where what is considered Easter Eggers today.

Also false.....To keep it simple.....Ameruacana have muffs and beards no ear tufts....EEs are crosses from Ameruacanas..Can have beards and muffs.Olive Eggers are Easter Eggers ....Just a Different cross ....For example crossing a Copper Maran with a Blue Ameruacana will produce olive coloured eggs in their off spring....

Cheers!

I figured by putting that in there it would cause some kind of uprising.... I guess I meant that was my "traditional understanding".

Also, I think the blue egg could come from crosses like the cream legbar.

Please no Debates....
This is an Ameruacana Pullet that Is not of colour standard yet but is out of Show stock Ameruacanas...A few Canadian Breeders are trying to get more colours added to the Standard...
