Hi there!

My boyfriend and I bought three baby chicks the end of May 2014. We got a Buff Orpington, a Silver Laced Wyandotte and dundundun!!!! Either a Welsummer or an Ameraucana. These two breeds were next to each other in bins and my boyfriend swears our chicken Brownie is an Ameraucana, I thought she's a Welsummer. Or is she something else? We've googled pictures of these breeds and just cannot decide what she is! Help!

Brownie (Unknown) and Lola (Buff Orpington)

Brownie is back left. Lola the Buff in front of her and Jinx the Silver Laced Wyandotte on her right.

Very young Brownie

Lola, left and Brownie, right.

She looks evil here but I swear she isn't! Whatever the breed, very friendly! And I love her fluffy cheeks.

Here's them all resting on perch! Brownie, Lola, Jinx.

If you can identify Brownie's breed or have any insight please help!

Looks like my Specks, an Easter Egger (Ameraucana cross--mine were crossed with a Black Copper Maran). I have six of them:

The puffy cheeks give it away, not being a Welsummer. =)

That looks like an EE for sure. You should get a blue or green egg from her!

Thank you everyone! She has been laying nice green eggs nearly everyday since mid November!!

For future reference this can help you ID breeds as a Welsummer would be expected to lay dark brown eggs and an Ameraucana would be expected to lay blue eggs - both per their breed standards. EE are cross/mixed breed birds created using blue egg laying parentage crossed with more common breeds (for the sake of being able to turn out more chicks) and often results in offspring that lay shades of green, blue or even cream/brown/pinkish.
