Barnevelders have certain genes(makes the adults dark and have that lacing pattern) that also give a distinctive look to the chick's heads- highly splotchy or marbled in appearence, just like on that brown chick. I would believe it if someone claimed that one is a barnevelder.
I think it's the two dark chicks throwing us off. They most certainly are not cuckoo marans or welsumer & the brown chick cannot be a welsumer so what does that leave the two dark ones as....? That's the question.
