We ordered her as a welsummer, but are wondering if that's what she is now? Could she be a brown leghorn? She's about 4 mos. old.

Doesn't look like either. Could be a New Hampshire, though. THey vary in color with hatchery stock, but she seems like she really could be one of the darker ones. Not positive, though, because of that variation. She's darker with more black than I think most Production Reds have or I'd think possibly that, too.

Thanks for the reply. However, she looked like a little chipmunk w/ eyeliner on when she was a chick, so I'm pretty sure she's not a New Hamphire.

She really doesn't look like a Brown Leghorn, but are her earlobes white or red? Welsummers and Brown Leghorns look similar, but she really doesn't look like either. I have Welsummers.
The chick pic is very telling. Definitely not a NH since they are yellow at that age.

Her lobes are a light brownish color. I don't see any white (yet anyway). Do leghorns have white lobes by this age? Perhaps a Welsummer but not good breeding practices from the hatchery?

It could be an off color for whatever breed she is, making it hard to identify. That chick color and the adult color dont seem to coordinate, if you know what I mean. Maybe someone else can help. I have New Hampshires and Welsummers and have seen lots of brown Leghorns and her coloring is just not like any of them, unless she is badly colored.

I guess off colored wellsummer although hatchery wellsummers often don't have many breed characteristics I also have two Wellie pullets from a well respected breeder and they are much more paterned then that not at all solid colored. She is a pretty girl though
