My rooster(Not my pic) presence of red/mahogany:View attachment 2992277
Welsummers aren’t just gold duckwing/wild type though. They also have the mahogany gene! That is why they are more orangey than gold and why males have solid red (streak free) necks and have red speckling on the breast. A more accurate term for the coloring would be red duckwing. It was especially obvious that mahogany was present when I had a Welsummer crossed with a wheaten Ameraucana.
You mentioned you have crossed a Welsummer with a wheaten Ameraucana. I’m doing some research before I start a project with these two breeds/colors. Could you describe what the offspring looked like? Specifically the pullets? Pictures would be an amazing bonus! Thanks for your time.Welsummers aren’t just gold duckwing/wild type though. They also have the mahogany gene! Thanks! She’s beautiful. This is just what I needed.View attachment 4042651
Well it's not a good picture (very old) and it was kind of a one off thing. A reddish brown over the body, slightly salmony breast, orange neck pea comb, beard...
The father was the Welsummer so she had white legs.
She was beautiful. And her eggs were lovely. Kind of wish I had another. Thanks! She’s beautiful. This is just what I needed.
