What about my light brahmas? They are both about 4 weeks old.
Not a Light Brahma. That's a Cochin, color looks like either Lavender or Blue/Splash. Definitely a cockerel.
That's a Blue, not Splash. And not showing any indications of gender yet. Ameraucana can be slow to develop.Sorry I know that this is the welsummer thred but since we're on a roll with roosters and all Sorry to hear your bad luck if you hadn't wanted Roos!
I did ordered a Roo on purpose when I did my order. It's a blue Splash Ameraucana. But it's got like NO signs of being a Roo at all. Any idea how long this breed takes to show signs? I'll provide a few pics I've heard the breed is slow to mature so I figure maybe just to young to show any.
I'd love to hear your input junebuggena, you are quite good at this![]()
We had wanted a Roo with the color egg gene in case we wanted some babies later.
ThanksThat's a Blue, not Splash. And not showing any indications of gender yet. Ameraucana can be slow to develop.
Females are a more uniform shade, males develop darker patches through the shoulder/wing area and have darker hackle and saddle feathers.ThanksI couldn't remember if it was just a blue or a Splash. It's the first time we've ever owned a true Ameraucana breed before. I know they come in different colors. They are very slow I guess. Either one would be fine with us but was curious if it looked more like one over the other yet as with them I'm not at all sure what to look for!![]()
