For humidity, wad up a bunch of paper towels and soak them well with hot water. Put them in quick, and the temp and humidity will stabilize pretty quickly, even though you just opened the thing.

ChooksChick,

If any of my chicks hatch, you have saved their lives. I did exactly what you told me and in just a few minutes the humidity went from 42% to 75%. Lockdown was the 13th and they were in there all day with low humidity, so I'm hoping there is still a chance that some will hatch. You know how it is when you want them so badly to hatch and you start thinking you hear a tap, then you imagine you hear a peep, then another tap.

Probably my nose was just whistling! Anyway, without your advice, NO chicks would have hatched. Also, I am using the little plexiglass window to do quick adjustments to paper towels, carefully move an egg over, etc., and the temperature maybe drops only half a degree instead of the 3 or 4 degrees when lifting the whole top - which is SOOOOOOOOOOO awkward. Thank you thank you thank you

I have the same Temp/Hygrometer meter - it's great - I use it for everything 'chicks', except of course the thermometer inside the incubator.

Well, so far this morning nothing : (, but.... they aint expected to hatch till tommorrow so I am still hopeful. Humidity is good, and temp has been good with the excpetion of Monday. I tweet at them and talk to them but I havent seen a singer rocker yet. Oh well, it is the season of Christmas miracles so I will keep updated.

Well- I had 15 out of 19 hatch- the other 4 I believe quit day 2 lockdown They had yolk still attached and they were shrink wrapped- I believe it is because while I was at work-the humidity plummeted-DH called and told me about it- I knew they were alive when I put them in lockdown-but oh well- ya win some-ya lose some- here are part of them- I did happen to get 1 only 1 golden laced wyandotte- the rest are a mix between gold laced wyandotte and cornish X, black orp, gold comet
