To ESofVA...This looks like one of the black broilers sold as replacements for people who don't like regular white cornish...Got 100 Silver Kings from Clearview Hatchery in Gratz, PA, few years ago..Many of them looked like this chicken..The massive thighs and legs are a dead giveaway..I memory serves me the males had lighter barrs spaced further apart than their darker less barred female counterparts..

just wanted to let you all know...

It's a GIRL!!!! No red no wattles! she's almost fully feathered!

The yellow is leading me to believe she's a barred rock. and her feathers are more dark and mottled than striped like a boy. Though she still looks like a cuckoo maran. :/

There was another thread about "commercial black" chicks. Apparently, some big hatchery is crossing Australorp, barred Rock, and others to make another hybrid layer much like the production red. I'm thinking you have one of those. I'd love to see how she turned out.
