Went to TSC and came home with 4 Mallard ducklings....questions

So true "jack & mommy's duckies" there are much worse things to be addicted to. We have 7 acres here and 12 horses in a 30 stall barn, so what am I to do with the extra stalls???? Turn them into coops of course! Four of them have attached rings, so they make for great runs. I have the 12 pullets that just started laying and now the 4 ducklings, so I am definitely not as addicted as you are. I think it is a great experience for my small children. My 3yr old son loves going to collect eggs and giving the girls treats. The baby is only 9 mos but I'm sure she will love it just as much. Kids these days spend way too much time watching tv and playing video games.....mine will be taking care of their animals and spending time outside.

Congratulations!
Four of my ducks are Mallards, 1 Drake and 3 Hens. I bought them at the feed store a year ago and even though they spent their first month in the house with me handling them and sleeping on my chest when I watched t.v. in the evenings once they got a taste of the outside world they quit being so friendly LOL The do come running to me when they see me, or fly to me if they're far enough away when they spot me, the will also come when called and will stand at my feet talking to me if I have a bag of peas in my hand. Mine spend the day all over the back yard, front yard and pasture as well as in the pond, then come up between 3 and 4 in the afternoon for supper and to be put in the pen. At dark I go out and shut all of the ducks up in the duckhouse and lock it so that I can sleep knowing nothing is going to get to them and hurt them.

LOL-I was just looking for info about housing chickens & ducks BECAUSE i went t TSC yesterday for crumble saw the ducks & got 4 mallard's.These are my 1st ducklings, they are supposed to all be female but i am wanting one male.They all look the same how old before you can tell if they are female/male for sure? YES I to an a animal addict...lol -LOVE"EM ALL!!
