Is there any Hatchery s?

They would be too expensive to get from a hatchery. Your best bet would be to ask around and/or subscribe to the gamebird gazette, they have listing for fowl in the back and there are usually people selling swans. Also where are you located?
You can also just keep looking on craigslist, which is where I got my pair. I only paid $250 for them in December of the year they were born. Also sometimes people have them listed on here also, so just keep looking and like I said, stay away from hatcheries.

great advise. For the most part you can find mute or black from the actual breeders who produce them for $500 a yearling pair or less.
Most I have seen on hatchery sites are $800- $1800 which is a joke for that much.
Go get a copy of the Gazette or A.P.W.S or go to the for sell section at www.GBWF.org

and find you a good breeder for some. PM me if you need some breeder site to check with. Right now will be a tuff fine as they are out of season for the most part.

WOW! That is a good deal $250.00. You are right, the hatcheries ask for a lot more. I saw some at a poultry show about 3 years ago for 700.00 for a grown pair. My pond was not fenced in so I didn't get them, and besides I heard they would not stay once they decided they wanted to leave.

My pond is not fence either. We asked the people we bought them off of how to get them to stay. They said just put them on the pond, make sure they have food and they will stay. So we did and they did, although they had a little bit of wander lust at first, walking around the pond and into the yard, but never more than about 100 yards away.
Yes it was a good deal and in my opinion it was the best $250 we ever spent on birds. We usually get really bad algae blooms in the summer and since we had it dug out a few years ago we started getting milfoil. No matter what we did we couldn't get rid of the milfoil and we constantly had to dump algaecide into the pond to keep it controlled, but it always came back. Now with the swans they eat take care of all the milfoil and algae for us, it is great.

get pinioned birds, they have no choice but to stay then. Also mute are non migratory species, so they dont do that anyway.

$700 for adults is a good price too, just not for yearlings

I thought you were required by law to pinion mute swans since they are non native and can potentially displace native swans.

not required that I know of by law. May be some new ones coming on the books after all the stuff going on with their over population issues though.
But they are a non native North American species, so so far they are not Governed by the fEds, some states may have state laws on them though.

I do not remember where I read it, but it makes sense though. In addition who would want thier expensive swans to fly away.

I have several black swans starting to mate and build nests, no eggs yet but soon. I have sold and shipped swan eggs in the past for $50 each plus shipping, buyers have been happy with hatching in their incubators, (eggs require lots of moisture and misting and hatch huge downy gray babies)
