Hello, We just bought our first chicks a few days ago. We have 6 pretty little girls of all different breeds. We weren't sure which breed would be right for our family so we took one of each. We are looking for ideas on building a coop and finding the best ways to care for our chicks. Our girls are for laying. During the spring we will also have bees and start our veggie garden and berry patch. Looking forward to learning and sharing in this group. Thanks for having us.

Welcome to BYC! You actually started out with a great approach which is try a little bit of everything until you find what you really like. I like a nice mixed flock. Regarding Cooper ideas, there are tons of excellent ideas here on backyard chickens, which you can find by business the "coops" tab here

The single key piece of advice I would offer to you as you consider what to build, would be to build way bigger than you think you need. Chicken math is generally inevitable, and even if it doesn't hit you you will have a happy flock that has more space than a "need" . I am firmly of the opinion that there is no such thing as providing too much space for your birds, however there is plenty of negative outcomes to be had by providing too little.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Are you planning to build your coop from scratch or convert a shed or similar structure into your new coop? Where in the world are you located? You can update your profile with your general location as that will likely affect some of your coop and run design.
