Isn't A-I a throat swab too? Haven't had to do that one yet, but have seen them do it in the sales area in at the NH & MA shows. Sarah wants to do a CT show at some point and they have to be A-I tested.

Thanks everyone, I was getting paranoid as to how they actually do it.
I have seen the Tester go to auctions and butt swab everyone so wasnt sure how they did it for this NPIP thing.
funniest was watching the woman mortify a gander LOL poor goose was so embarassed LOl.

Laura. Geese are doing very well and seem to be very happy here.
gotta ask are they this years geese? and does Maine have the NPIP for goose and have they been morified yet?

The older male and one of the hens is 3 years old. The other two are two years old. Yes, waterfowl in Maine are tested under the NPIP, so one of them was probably done, we test again in May 2010. Our birds have been tested yearly since we started the flock about 6 years ago, so now it is only 10% of the home flock, but what we usually do is take one of every breed

He would be here all day if they had to do the whole flock again lol...

Ok if mr mean butt will let me near the hens I will see if any of them have a band or do they not band geese? ugh what did I get me into LOL.
according to cindy they dont test geese here so I am not sure how thats going to go but will know more when the tester gets here, hopefully I will have a bit more info.

I wonder do they test the whole flock or just a few from each breed ugh why didnt I think to ask these questions before hand.

I have one hen turkey who was blinded by another chick while young, she acts funny with her head down and twists it this way and that to see whats going on around her. I just hope he doesnt think she is sick. she isnt, she is a very healthy blind on one side hen.
its kinda cute to watch the 2 toms side up to her and walk her to the coop every night.

Birds tested for the NPIP program in Maine are not required to be banded, not even to be shown. Maine testers do them on the spot and any possitive birds are taken..

It's a vile from under the wing.
In N.H.,Tony.

actually, the NPIP is not the test, it is just another certificate meaning you quilfy for NATIONAL Poultry Improvement Plan, and you can only get it if your polluim and avain test come back clean.
for those 2 test they take blood from under the wing, and a soem they take a mouth swab.

Everything tested in MA is also banded. Waterfowl here aren't tested though.

Edited for horrendous sentence structure.
