Awesome! We have a wolfhound and I've been waiting these past few years for a deerhound or a wolfie to win something, lol.

Did I understand correctly that this is the first time in the history of the breed that they've won at Westminster?

Monday, while watching the herding group I was shocked at the GSD. Couldn't the judges find anything better in the classes than that poor cowhocked creature? Or were they TRYING to embarrass the whole breed? That bearded collie was truly gorgeous, though! In working, I didn't care for the Rottie--Redyre's dogs are way better, IMO. Maybe someday we'll get to see Katie there.

I've never owned one, but they've always appealed to me(love hounds of almost any kind). I love big 'ol sweet looking dogs with a great temperament.
So glad something DIFFERENT finally took best in show!
Maybe this will bring some attention to this breed.

Do you think though that sometimes when a breed wins it brings the wrong kind of attention? Suddenly that is THE kind of dog to have and people get them without understanding the breed and if it will actually be a good fit for them?

Just thinking out loud...

That was a nice dog though, but I'm waiting for Katie to win

That's always a concern(kinda like what happened to all of those poor dalmations when 101 Dalmations came out).
I absolutely understand your thought-and of course it is worrisome. BUT, that's a LOT of dog to feed, not sure someone would buy one on a whim(one would hope not).
Plus, I'm not sure how prevalent this particular breed is in this country?
Your point is VERY valid, PBJ-people owning pets of any kind, without thought to LONG term care makes me sad.

Thats good to hear that a breed, other than a terrior or fluff dog won. I went to bed after the working group was done.

Yeah, seriously I was thinking the exact same thing. I looked at that specimen and it was just *weird dysfunctional* looking <walks away shaking head>, I'd take Redyre's over that ANY day.

I had never seen a Newfie with so much white before, that was pretty cool, they are quite attractive that way! Want. Well no, not really, too absorbent for a wet property like ours, but, you know.

Pat, did not stay up for best in show but always an admirer of tall critters like deerhounds, except for the lifespan thing.
