Wet cheek?

Yeah I will try have a real good look at what's causing it Lydia because I don't want it to be the sign of something more sinister; He's always acted normal and doesn't seem to be in any discomfort but it's quite stressful for him when I try to hold his head to get a good look - is there any safe way I can also hold his mouth open to see if there are any problems on the inside???

Is he used to be handled at all?
You'll probably need help, one person to hold him and his wings and feet,
and another to get the beak open.
Might start slower and just investigate the wet spot with fingers and maybe paper towel to see if spot is oily or not.

To get the best view you’ll need one person to hold him and another to shine a light and look down his throat but you can also try it yourself by setting up a flashlight in position where you’re going to hold him and then look down his throat.

The best way to do anything pertaining to a goose’s mouth is to do it in a corner so they can’t get away, then with one hand over the top of his head press gently but firmly on the back corners of the mouth which will make him open his mouth and hold onto the the whole top of his beak with that hand, use the other hand to gently hold his jaw open and tongue down to look in the throat.

The first few times is not easy to do yourself but if you have to do it more than once like if you have to administer medicine they get used to it after the first few times and it doesn’t bother them so much because they’ve realized you’re not trying to hurt them. It helps if you give them a treat before and afterwards as a reward, my gander Parsnip actually looks forward to medicine day and cooperates because he knows he gets extra blueberries.
Also it helps if you do it in a darker room.

You can try training him ahead of time by going through the motions and rewarding him if you’re not comfortable actually opening his mouth yet.

Wear gloves. I stand behind my gander and hold him with my knees take hold of his head and pull towards me so I can look into his mouth coming from behind makes it easier if it’s only you. Also straddling and sitting on him with support of your legs so your not putting all your weight on him.
