I came home from work to find four of my one day old coturnix chicks soaked with nutridrench water and not doing well. I put them back in the incubator to warm but they don’t look great. Anything else I should be doing. Not sure when it happened. The chick sitter (husband) says they looked good shortly after 4pm, so...?

Don’t blow dry them or blast them with heat. First of all, how were they able to soak themselves? Fix that immediately.

Not sure. I suspect a waterer tipped over but no one is talking. That is why I try to hatch on the weekends when I’m home. There isn’t even much liquid (maybe 2 oz total) in the waterers though so I’m perplexed. Looks like this:

Hmm. How big is that supposed to be? I can't tell.

I've had a drenched, cold chick that was almost completely unresponsive completely recover after time directly under the heat lamp in my hand. If your husband says they're looking good after time in the incubator, they will probably be fine.

What bedding do you have in the brooder? I’ve had many different beddings wick water out of the waterers and kill chicks......incubator is best option if still warm and blow dryer would be second best option

They’re still just on paper towels. The tiny budgie waterers still have liquid and were upright so probably didn’t spill. I have a small shallow lid with pebbles and water. Perhaps the four dinks fell asleep in that and wicked water through their feathers?

I’ve given them all nutridrench with a syringe and two look pretty good so I put them back in the brooder so they don’t trample the other two in the incubator.

I swear, just when I think I’ve got it figured out. :barnie

I pick uncomfortable rocks, pointy and uneven. I try to be sure the rocks are taller than the water, so if they hang out on them, they aren’t wicking up water.
