So we've had some pretty bad weather and one of my muscovy ducks has ended up with wet feather. I've spent the past 45 minutes or so blow drying him so he is now actually as dry as I can possibly get him.

I read somewhere to empty out their pond and keep them dry for a few days to let their oil get back to the feathers. Is there anything else I can do?
As you can see he is pretty grubby and feathers are in poor condition

Thanks

Ok so just an update he has ended up getting wet through again somehow I guess just from perhaps the dew we've had in the mornings as it's been quite misty?

Would it be better to just fill their pond up so everyone can wash properly and just hope for the best over the cold spell?

It's been like 2 days since you posted. it'll take like 2 weeks to start seeing noticeable results.

What's cold for you? They're probably not cold. Give them time. U be aight.!

If he were mine, I would take as much time each day as he will let you and put a warm washcloth on his oil gland. Then see if he will let you preen him?:idunno Which I know is odd but the oil gland will release the oil a lot easier when it’s warm and soft. I would also give him “fish, flax, and borage oil” capsules from Walmart. They are a couple bucks. This will definitely increase his oil production. Put it on a treat or in his food. 1/day

I’m sure there isn’t anything wrong with his oil gland but the more of it that he gets spread around, the faster they will become waterproof again. And the oil capsules will help him grow good quality feathers.

When my Muscovy's got wet feather it was always about 2 months before molt each fall and only my solid white ones for some reason. Once they molted their feathers where in prime condition until about 2 months before molt again the next year. But it was always in warmer time of year so they never chilled and they [3] were over 5 yrs old when it started. None of my other scovies have had wet feather. Just my 3 solid white ones all females. Don't know if the color has something to do with or not but found it interesting your with wet feather is drake and solid white.
