I believe the dosage for Metronidazole is 250mg for a 5 pound bird, divided into an AM and a PM dosage.

Dev is 6.3 lbs and Eddie is 5.3 lbs how would I do that?

It's best to space out dosages, antibiotics peak in the blood stream rather quickly and lows in the blood will allow organisms to develop immunity. So a constant stream of antibiotics is best.

Is the Metronidazole tablets or powder?

It’s the tablets.

Since the lesions looked a little too close to the airways I decided to give both a half of a 250 mg metronidazole tablet tonight.

I gave Dev brewers yeast and vitamin C 30 minutes before, will this affect the metronidazole in any way?

No, I don't think the vitamins and yeast will interfere with the medication.

I would only go one more day on the Copper. Being a heavy metal, it's building up in the organs and needs to dissipate. It doesn't take long, 4 or 5 days and you can resume the Copper if needed for another 7 to 10 days.

Hi all!

So an update, I am still dealing with lesions in Devs throat. Eddie’s seem to be gone except for one small one that is right next to her entry way from her nares to mouth... something with a slit in it, forgot the name.
Devs have come and go, during the treatment of metronidazole and ronidazole, the remaining ones disappeared while new ones appeared. Dev has also had some new ‘dry pox’ show up. Back on April 30, when I noticed the lesions, dev had dry pox then too and now it’s back?

What I’m trying to find out is if I am medicating them for canker when it’s actually fowl pox or it’s canker and it’s very stubborn. What makes me think it is wet pox is that I live in Florida and mosquitoes are everywhere, and they both seemed to develop black dots on their combs back on April 30, it gradually went away, and Dev now has more dry pox showing up.
What makes me think it is canker is that fowl pox should only run a course of a month or less and this have been going on for months. Also, the lesions do disappear with the medicine, but new ones still show up.

I have given acidified copper sulfate, metronidazole, and I just finished up with ronidazole.

What’s next?

Any suggestions would be awesome!

Here’s pictures of the dry pox on Dev from a few days ago and some lesion pictures from quite a while ago

If it were wet pox, I didn’t start medicating them until June I think so I doubt I weakend their immunity which would explain why they still have it. I’m also giving probiotics right now to help.
