Are Hollands really "calm"? I have to consider some.
I am afraid any white egg layer will not be popular here for forseable future.
That's the said reality. People believe (wrongly) that brown eggs taste better which is BS, egg will taste according to what you feed your bird. not what the color of the shell is.
I got tired of all those those contemporary "dual purpose" breads laying "brown" egss, they are neither meat birds neiter "brown egg layers", those eggs are light brown or rather dark beige.
That's why I won ebay auction for Brown Leghorn eggs, at least they will lay and forage well.
My mother in the 50's had real RIR's now extinct at least in US. They layed almost as good as white leghorns, and their eggs where DARK BROWN like number 5-6 (undoctored by photo shop) Maran eggs and there was some killer tasting meat on them!
Give me some of those old RIR's and to heck will all those lazy and eating like a hog poor laying Marans, wimpy meatless Production reds and others.

I have been wanting Dorkings since I got into chickens. I REALLY want the colored, and then the silver grey.
BlackBart --- I wish it was that easy here!!
tazcat --- We have Red, but want to add white & cuckoo. I might as well be looking for pterydactyls!
If we lived closer I could help you out. where there is a will there is a way.
They really are a delightful breed. Most of their eggs are laid early in the year. They make EXCELLENT mothers. As a meat bird they are prized for their white flesh. I also like the long history behind the breed.
I only know of one pair of coloured Dorkings, near me. The Roo looks much like many other breeds. Don't know of anybody with Cuckoo's or White's.
Did you try looking on the Canadian site? I saw some Red/Coloured on there awhile back.
Alberta Chickens Etc or something like that

We love the Dorkings that we have. Among all the wonderful things you mentioned, the roos are so gentle with their girls that they can live together full time. I have to pull the Orp & Ameraucana boys out to start comditioning for showing. They'll go back to just conjugal visits & hating the Dorking boys!!
I haven't looked in Canada. I do have a possible lead on Cuckoo in Pennsylvania, but he doesn't have internet access. I'll reach him by phone eventually. I found a breeder willing to sell me White Dorking eggs!
