What’s Everyone Reading Right Now?

I've been reading The Priory of the Orange Tree lately and it's really good.

Would you describe it a bit?

I didn't even know this thread had carried on until it came up in my alerts this morning.

I recently finished Mary Trump's book. Well enough written but not of any general interest or import. Really just dirty laundry. I mean I think she's more than entitled to describe her experiences. I wish her well and, after all he insults she suffered from that family, I'm happy to see her profit from some of that heartless treatment. But I had expected to learn more that could be applied to current events.

I also read Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner with my book group. Can't understand the popularity of this book. No one in my group really did. It's pretty vacuous and written as though the online culture of "influencers" is what the world's about. Wouldn't recommend it. But that's me. A lot of people consider it fun summer reading.

Currently reading Woman, Girl, Other by Bernardine Evaristo. This won a Booker Prize and I was eager to get into it. I almost gave up on it because her writing style includes punctuation and formatting that's wildy eccentric. It made me nutz. But I pushed through that and found out the book is MAGICAL! Intergenerational, interracial, international, pan gender. This woman was AMBITIOUS and pulls off something that's hip, empathetic, witty and incorporates as much of the human experience as I can possibly imagine. It's touching and reassuring and enlightening and WONDERFUL.

I read all the time and I guess I don’t really have a specific book for when I’m sad... I just read what I like which is usually Christian Fiction and sometimes Non-Fiction

I have become an avid listener to audio books. I can pop my headphones on anytime and get my stories. I subscribe to the audible service through Amazon, the $12 bucks a month is a great way to have lots of titles available. I normally am a "heavy reader" but it feels like in this crazy world some light hearted sci-fi/fantasy stuff has been hitting the spot. I just finished the Odd Thomas series from Dean Koontz, I am currently listening to the JD Robb "In Death" detective series. Futuristic, Mystery, some romance. It's a pretty good distraction.

You know you can get free audiobooks from your local library?
