What’s is considered too many treats?

I'm concerned that they 'clean up' their regular feed (what is it?) every day. Make sure that they have all the balanced diet that they can eat first, and then the treats are really 'extra'. My birds get some goodies, and free range, but nowhere near the volume per bird that yours are getting. If it works, that's great, but especially in winter, outdoor variety shrinks, with the frozen ground and snow. Mary
They get layer feed. Most days it is gone by the time I come back to lock them in. But, there are leftovers here and there. I just installed a new feeder where I can leave more in the feeder and it won't get wasted. Before, I was trying to figure out how much was too much and how much was too little.
So, are the veggies considered treats or just the extra corn and mealworms?

Ok. I only fed them like 4 florets of broccoli this morning in addition to their feed. I will make sure to cut back on the treats.
I think I was over compensating for the fact that they are no longer free ranging. ;)

Why don't they get out daily?

They have a run and get out in that. But, where they came from before was a totally free ranged set up. I can’t let them do that here. They have no trees or anything to escape to. We basically live in the middle of a field. ;)

If you stayed out and only free ranged even an half hour they would be happy ...

Should their wings be clipped? I have no fence. It’s just an open acre plus surrounded by fields. I have gotten them out one at a time, but, I just held them to check them over.
New chicken owner here. :frow

You're going to get varied answers to your question. I don't clip wings because their flight is part of their natural defense. My birds live in a pasture surrounded by electric fence and have multiple shelters in the pasture. You might want to checkout premier 1 poultry netting and a solar charger. My brats, will leave the pasture and wonder around the property, but they all can be found in their shelters after dark, when I lock them in. I've had a few refuse to go into their shelters... Some I've lost while others snuggle up with my turkeys, who will protect them from owls. A few weeks ago, I found a barred owl dead in my pasture... A one pound bird should never tangle with a 20 pound Tom.

@rjohns39 I will look into the netting and solar charger. I’m kind of protective of the birds due to only having 4 - if I lose one - that’s 25% of my flock. ;)
