A lot of people assume this; I used to think that the chalazae (white stuff that holds the yolk in place) was rooster spermOkay.. learned another new thing.. yet I have about four or five roosters, busy roosters.. Assumption, you know what they say..
"rooster sperm"A lot of people assume this; I used to think that the chalazae (white stuff that holds the yolk in place) was rooster spermThe meal spots have something to do with broken blood vessels on top of the yolk while it’s being formed or some other reproductive accident in the oviduct. You’re right to not be grossed out - totally normal.
"rooster sperm"Good one!

In my case, it’s not a difference in taste between egg colours. It’s the fact that I can see the shell pieces easier if the egg doesn’t break cleanly into whatever I’m making. So that’s one of the reasons why I keep Barred Rocks....don’t they all taste the same?
growing up...i am 41...we always had brown eggs and that was “weird” to my friends. they would question eating an egg that had a brown shell...now it’s common place in the grocery store as if it’s better than a white egg.
What’s the obsession over egg shell color?
No shrugging necessary.. I enjoyed it. You made my day.. no thing personal.. Carry on!
My Easter Egger were very good layers. Nice size eggs and very consistentSo yes or no? Are your color-egg layers good producers?

How do you track them.. don't even know how many I have?I have a mixed breed flock and I like being able to track who is laying and how often. The eggs of each of my hens is different so I know when I check on them and gather eggs who is laying. I will admit to a secret joy in holding a perfect blue egg in my hand, but indeed they all taste the same!
