About two months ago my most outgoing chicken changed her personality completely overnight.
she’s been eating pooping laying and seems to move around fine, but she’s not as active as she used to be, and she’s not as active as the other chickens. He comb etc are slightly darker red than the other chickens; i just felt around her crop and (don’t know what its supposed to feel like) and it didn’t seem like anything was stuck in there.
she’s been doing this weird breathing thing- not constantly - some days it’s more noticeable than others. She breathes thru her mouth an kind of points her beak up then tucks her head in.
my gut was that a hawk really scared her one day, maybe injured her, but I’ve never been able to find any marks or injuries. Theier coop is super secure at night and the 6 birds have about 1000 sq ft of secured run (netting over top) right near the house.
I also just discovered rats living under the coop and I’m wondering if that could have scared
Any help is greatly appreciated- I worry that taking her to the vet will be more traumatic than what’s going on.
