Chirping
I am brand new to chickens. I am an urban homesteader if you will, meaning that I grow my food, make butter and vinegar, craft bar and liquid soap, hair care products, compost, and now chickens. I have always wanted to do this, and just as with my gardening, I enjoy knowing what goes into what I eat. I first got my RIR pullets one month ago, but they were on clearance at the time, and although tiny, with color in their wings, I estimate they are 5 - 6 weeks old. I found BackyardChickens.com because, well, I didn't know anything about raising chickens, and I found this through an interweb search. In addition to being maybe old fashioned, as urban homesteader is weird (only in my mid-forties), I also enjoy personal safety and self defense and woodworking. In fact, my chicks were introduced to woodworking at 1 week since I had them in my shop. My girls are big now and in their new home outside. I thought it would take forever, but after only 3 days of me scooping up to put them in the coop at night and then pulling them out into the run at dawn, they got the hang of it. It helped I think that they are comfortable with me by now. I sincerely appreciate all the useful stuff I have discovered through your site as a complete noob. Happy urban farming ---
