What a great, inexpensive hobby

lol. I just read on the official website of the poultry club or whatever it is that sets standards for breeds and it said something about there being like 400 different breeds of chickens. If you want one of each you're gonna have a lot of chickens!

I think you would go under the expensive category. lol.

I'm looking at incubators right now and I'm having a hard time deciding what I'll really really need if I want the best hatch rate possible and the numbers are adding up. Of course if I can get a good one that will get me good hatch rates and last a long time then it should pay for itself in no time.

I'm just a weak ole crazy chicken lady!

aren't we all crazy old chicken peeps, ladies and gents alike..hehehe

WARNING KDAILEY, hatching is extremely addictive! Oh, you'll want to get a hatcher while you're at it, for those eggs that hatch at different times too!
Well, as far as having every breed there is, that's what I thought. First I just wanted a few yard chickens and I would have been happy with that because I had no idea there were so many different kinds. But the first one's my husband brought home were silkies. Well, need I say more? Off to the internet! Geez, I'd like to have some of those, and husband want's some of those and child really likes thoses. Well ended up with a hodgepodge of this and that and ended up getting rid of most of the original's except Elvis my original silkie and a few other's. I have narrowed it down to about 12 different breeds and will be cutting those soon too. You'll find what suits you best and what your favorites are through trial and error. I have a couple I am working on for showing, and a couple I keep for egg laying, and a few breeds I keep for selling hatching eggs. I must admit I have another new breed in the incubator! Husband doesn't know yet!

I have heard about this addicting habit called hatching....sounds expensive.....

I'm already addicted to chickens in general and want more more more. Of course BF doesn't want me to buy anymore chicks so I'm getting sneaky with it. lol. "But they're not chickens yet!!" He agreed to let me buy an incubator today but a few days ago he was saying to not even buy hatching eggs. Ummm.....my chickens are no where near laying age....what does he think I'm going to put in the incubator? hehe.
