What a way to feel valued as a teacher...

WyandotteTx- I know very well what I'm talking about. My ex was a school teacher and my sister in law is currently a high school english teacher (masters degree). Also, my brother was on the school board for many years. So yes, I am very up to date about teachers and schools and such. Being that you are a world geography teacher and a "coach" (I would have bet money on that) I wouldn't expect you to agree with my position. Our kids are being systematically "dumbed down" and as a teacher, you are a part of it. You think I'm wrong? Take a look at achievement tests from the late 1800's or early 1900's and compare to the junk being passed on as "tests" today. Kids back then had to really learn in order to pass. Now it's " no child left behind." Makes me sick. I do know that there will be no agreement between your position and mine so I will not continue to debate with you. If you are sick of the hate and rant contact a moderator and ask to have your thread locked..

This is a nation wide attack on public education, the brainwashing started some time ago. A certain fraction of ultra conservatives would like to see public education eliminated, and replaced with private education, where the agenda of hate and fear can be brainwashed into the American children without anyone being able to stop them.

Yep the American version of the Taliban's teaching..

I wish you the best, I would say come to Wisconsin but even here we are fighting this fight.

Be well

Being debt free is a HUGE advantage!!! As others have mentioned, IF and when it happens, apply for unemployment. Start SAVING now, every extra penny you can save - stick in the bank. Cut back on any "extras" you spoil yourself with...specialty coffees, cable television, eating out, etc. Start separating your needs from your wants. I didn't hear you mention kids or spouse, so this will help your tremendously as well, as it'll free you up to go anywhere to look for employment (deciding what to do about your house will be another matter). Most people have friends or family in other areas who would put them up for a while while job hunting. I wish you well that things will work out for the best for you

You can thank Doggett for that. He's the one that wanted to put Perry (not my fav person btw) in a bad spot, and he's succeeded.

Thanks to Doggett and his DC buddies machinations Perry had a choice.
Uphold Texas law as he's sworn to do and Texas teachers and students get the shaft.
OR Break the Law and get the federal funds.

If he upholds the law then Teachers, Parents etc will condemn him for not caring about education = Lost Votes
If he breaks the law then everyone can call him a criminal rat who is sucking up to big brother = Lost Votes
Either way the Democrats, Doggett in particular, have ammunition against him.
Either way Perry gets mud thrown at him and Doggett comes out smelling like a rose.
Perry legally had no choice but to uphold the law. So that's what he did. I can respect that, because I know it wasn't him that set up the mess.

Doggett is the one I'm mad at. You want to get in a peeing contest PLEASE do not do it in the school yard!

Not that things wouldn't have been really tight without this mess. The spending habits of my district... YEESH... $12,000.00 for a Convocation "Have A Great Year" Meeting?!?!?! Stuff like that certainly isn't helping. But had Doggett not betrayed his state there would have been hundreds of millions of dollars to help districts survive this downturn. I suppose it's possible that Doggett had no clue what the Texas Constitution said, be rather lame seeing as he's representing Texas, but I suppose it's possible. More likely though he was perfectly aware of that stipulation and knew that it'd put Perry in the hot seat and risk teacher's jobs on this political game.

Kid's Education should NOT be a game. Teacher's jobs should not be a game. All those lives shouldn't just be pawns in a power struggle. But that's what they've been reduced to. And there's not doodly squat I can do about it. I don't live in Doggett's district so I can't not vote for the guy and get him booted. Only the people of Austin can, and they're the ones who elected him on his Pro-Education platform. Hopefully come election time they'll remember what he's done and the results of it...
