What a way to start the day

Ol'FashionHen :

Oh I cook too much not to have a dishwasher. I grew up with three lazy sisters, I was always doing dishes after 6-7 people sometimes twice a day

. I love to cook..but I hate dishes my DH loads and unloads the dishwasher most of the time. Now if I can just get him and our DS to do a little laundry that would be glorious.

My DH does the laundry

I wash, he dries....dishwashers just take up much needed cupboard space. I cook alot, but I wash as I go, never have a very big mess, so I really don't need a dishwasher.

Have never had a dishwasher. After I got married, parents remodeled their kitchen and got a dishwasher. Mother used it to store her tupperware! She sold her house a couple years ago and moved into an apartment and uses the dishwasher for tupperware storage. I swear, if I ever live in a place with a dishwasher, it WILL be used for washing dishes!

I grew up washing all the family dishes by hand, it'll be good for your kids to go through it as well. I couldn't do with out one now but it's because my kids are little. Maybe I'll "break" mine when they get to dishwashing age!
Good for you for teaching them about real life

I grew up with 6 brothers and sisters - what a hassle dishes were. Since there were 7 of us, each of us had a day of the week assigned to us for washing dishes. With 9 people in the house, there was always a boatload of dishes and pots and pans (these were the days before tevlon and non-stick frying pans existed) and we all hated scrubbing the non stop pile of dishes. Five of us pooled our money one year for Christmas from our afterschool farm jobs and bought my mom a portable dishwasher. Then we all argued about loading and unloading it!

We built our home new in 98 and of course, a built in dishwasher was just one of those things I had to have. Do I use it? Rarely.

I can do them so much faster by hand. There are days though when we do put everything in and push the button. some days I just don't want to stand there.

I don't do teflon or non-stick...bad for you! If you deglase the pans before you wash them....no scrubbing!

I've never understood that because we always wipe them down with a scrubie good before they go into the dishwasher. The rule is they don't go in with any food left on them.

I've been without a dishwasher for 5 years. Oh how I wish I had one again. I've had the kids do the dishes before but I end up having to do them again anyway
