hi, I'm back.... been so busy but i didnt forget that i promised photos......
duckies lurve their new house. its fab, an because they like it so much and get dinner etc inside, it means if i need them to go in 5 mins before dark they will, with it fully dark now by 5pm that really helps take some pressure off me with the horses!
so....i dont have many pics...the weather has been awful all week and its dull and damp etc...next nice day we get i will take proper pics
it does need a lick of paint...it was a dog kennel for a few months....and it took me a whole day to put it back together and modify it for ducks. it also took a whole day to go get it!
i put the lino all around the floor and walls in the sleeping part (on the left-off pic) and in most of the run part, i ran out of lino
i have wood sticks to put around the lino but only get time at the weekends so will have to do it in a few days!
the steps i made with 2 pieces of wood, the floor in the sleeping part is slightly higher than ground level but i didnt want them dragging out all the bedding so i raised the steps above the height of the bedding and it works perfect. they have no problem going in and out and bedding stays put!!!
at this stage (5th night in it) the grass is now mud. i had hoped to get some grass mats, rubber mats with holes in, that i could put down and put sand over but every single place is out of stock of the mats but they can go down on mud anyway....
once i have that sorted i have a small tub for them to have s splash about in at night time, but it cant be too big otherwise i will never get it in and out to clean it!
they still come in and out every day, i just let that door open and they dont actually go back in until i put their dinner in, hopefully tomorrow i can get them back on adlib feeder, they are a bit less greedy now that they have settled into their routine.
i was thinking about getting another runner because i felt guilty that i had left her at the breeders, but apparently he now has a runner drake too, so shes happy and in the spring once i find a use for 3 duck eggs a day, then i might get 2 calls!!!!!
anyway
thats my lot for now.
its not the prettiest yet, gimme time and a bit of paint and it will be super beautiful, ducks dont seem bothered by beauty tho, they are soooo much happier, they even let me in the run part tonight while they were in there, a few days ago all hell broke loose when i just tried to close the door...
only thing is, they now FLY out of the door every morning, because they can....but they have also been dooing a bit of flight practice in the garden/enclosure........ i thought runners couldnt fly? they are up to 4 feet high and 8-10 feet in distance......
will they go higher/farther when there is no net over them?????????
