what age ameraucana lay?

I have some I got as chicks in May. They haven't laid 1 egg yet. I had a light out there but after Christmas I turned it off. I'm convinced they are just not very hardy layers. I'm sure they will lay in the spring, but I'm not going to run a light for them for just an egg or two every few days.I know it would help but not enough to make it worth it.
My kids were really pumped about getting blue eggs, for awhile they were going out and looking everyday, now they don't even ask. Will

I keep my birds on 15 hours of light with a $5 time I bought from Wal-Mart. That still gives them nine hours "of rest" I suppose you could say.

Before I got the timer, I kept them on 24 hours of light and I never saw a problem with their laying or their health. I've talked to several folks who keep their birds on 24 hours of light and have had no problem as well.

A chicken is born with a certain number of eggs that it will lay. It may have a varying degree of lay rate but they are only going to lay so many eggs as they have been given.

As for Ameraucanas, I haven't found mine to be particularly efficient layers. I'm collecting eggs now for the incubator and for sale so I'll be keeping better track of them than I have in the past but I'm guessing I get about 4 eggs a week per hen.

God Bless,

I don't have electricity to my coop, so light isn't an option. I wasn't saying there is a right or a wrong way, but just repeating what I was told. I am new to chickens so I really have no idea what is best

Hey KLF, wasn't trying to rag on ya man. Please don't think I was being critical of you. Just passing on my experiences and what others have told me too. There's a lot of opinions out there. Ya just gotta weed thru what's yarn and what's truth.

God Bless,
