What age can chicks receive amprolium?

This is my concern as well. It seems that every time I bring new pullets into my flock, they start having bloody poop within a week. I always treat with corid as soon as I see the blood, and believe me, I really look for it so I can treat as soon as possible. Some don't show any sign of weakness with the bloody poop and others get very weak and die. I believe that in the more severe cases they have more damage to the intestinal lining which inhibits nutrition absorption, making them weaker. That's why I was wondering if there is a preventative dosage that I could give, so that they might get introduced to the cocci without it doing so much damage. From what I've read, it seems that all poultry get this disease. The trick is to control it by introducing it to the new bird slowly to allow them to build immunity. I usually get my pullets at 8 to 12 weeks of age, keep my coops and run very clean, and there is plenty of room in the run and coop. I'm not sure why I have such a problem with this, but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!

One of the first signs I see is a crop that's *not* stuffed full of food at the end of the day, the other is weight loss or lack of gain. A healthy chick should have a full crop most of the day and should gain weight daily.

It's a lot of work, but you might want to invest in a digital kitchen scale and start keeping track of their weight. I'd be willing to bet that you would lose less this way, I know I have.

I’m interested in all of this info as well. I don’t think I have lost any from it but I’m concerned I have one (~5 min old turken) that got to hot which in turn dropped her immunity and now is super lethargic and doesn’t want to eat or drink. We noticed the lethargy yesterday. She is perfectly healthy otherwise. Not a feather in the wrong place. I just made her drink a few mls of water that had been treated with corrid, probiotics and electrolytes. I also have 2-5 day old chicks and was wondering if they are to young to drink the corrid water!? Any help would be great. TIA!
