What age can my chicks go without a heat lamp?

My chicks are almost 4 and a half weeks old and are almost fully feathered, and right now they still live in a tub with a heat lamp and its getting way too crowded in there, and we are getting ready to move them into the coop. I was wondering if they would be okay without the heat lamp? It is in the upper 40s at night time where I live.

Any help is appreciated

Welcome to BYC! Your chicks don't need a heat lamp at all now, especially while still inside. At the outdoor temps you have now they won't need one when they move into their coop either but if you want to put one up at first for a couple of days to let them get used to the new temp range that's fine too. But yes, at that age they definitely need to get out of the tub and start living chicken life lol!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Good advice from cafarmgirl on your chicks. I'm sure they will be so much happier with more room to stretch their legs and wings.

Good luck with your chicks and enjoy BYC :frow

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice already so I'll just say hello!

All the best

Sounds like it's time to move, they'll appreciate the additional space.

It's nice to have you here!

Thank you for the advice!! They have been in the coop for 4 nights and all seems to be going quite well. I stuck a blanket in the coop with them so at night time they mostly just snuggle together and keep each other warm.
