What age can you decide they are show quality?

I have 10 BR and will choose the best for showing. What age can you decide which are the best?

I think probably wait until 8 months old or so. At our local shows, we usually do the kid's show or the backyard show instead of the open show, unless you have show bird stock. Hatchery barred rocks look quite a bit different from show-type barred rocks. For the kids shows they usually give ribbons to almost every bird (at least here they do - pretty fun). We brought our hatchery cochin bantam and he got 5th place in the kids show, but still got a ribbon! The kids were so excited!

Here's one of our show barred rock roosters (right side of photo) we had a few years ago from hatching eggs from Kraig Shaffer (he won some of the big shows). He was huge! I didn't keep them because the roosters were so big that the hens got their backs ripped open by the roosters and I would've had to keep them in separate pens from the hens which I didn't want to bother with. They were gorgeous eye candy though!
