I have 3 roos (2 black cochins, 1 golden comet) all around 10 weeks. At what age do they start crowing? and does this coincide with "puberty" what age can I get fertilized eggs? I have 2 sexlinks that are 19 weeks and started laying this week.

I was going to ask the similar question. I looked at Wikipedia and it said 4 weeks. I have Buff Orpington who's about 16-18 weeks old and I haven't heard a peep from him. I can't find any reference to how common that is.

For me 12 - 14 weeks has been pretty normal but it sure varies a lot. It seems to vary a lot per individual and not so much by the breed. I have a very noisy Marans at about 16 weeks old and a couple that have just now begun to croak that were hatched at the same time. 20 week old RIR that have not made a sound.

My 7 week old Banty Ameraucana cockerel started crowing today. Too funny! It's this little three beat screech that sounds nothing like a crow.

My Banty Buff Brahma however, didn't start crowing until he was about 14 weeks.

We found this out the hard way, but sometimes only one rooster will crow at a time (the alpha). So if you have more than one rooster, the younger one might not be crowing yet because he is subordinate. We live in a town that doesn't allow roosters and so every time we gave away the alpha, the next in line would start to crow.

My two cockerals hatched sometime in March and are still not crowing.

I'd love to keep it that way.
